Playlist layout editor doesn't work

Sun Oct 04, 2009 9:38 am
Hi, I have this very annoying problem: when I try to edit my playlist layout by dragging new items from menu, it's impossible to drop them here. I have only the "you-can't-drop/move-here" cursor. I can move with items which already are in the layout but I can't add new one.

There is one more feature in Amarok which doesn't work and it's guessing tags from filenames. This feature uses the same system as playlist layout editor (dragging and dropping new items to particular area) and it of course has the same problem.

It worked in 2.1 version but since 2.2 (many new playlist features and upgrades) it doesn't. Firstly I thought it's problem of beta version, but there is no difference in final Amarok 2.2.

I tried many thinks such deleting amarok profile, upgrading KDE and Qt to the newest versions, creating new layouts, deleting old ones, but nothing helped.

Of course, I could change playlist layout by editing XML files but I don't consider it to be a good solution. :)

Do you try changing existing layouts? That will not work with the dialog, you need to make a new layout, then it works without any problems. I do the following:
* make a copy of an existing layout, this will ask you to give a new name
* modify the layout you want to have
* preview to check if everything is ok
* save. This will come with an error message that you can't change existing layouts, but just clicking ok there will aplly it anyway (we need to get rid of that message in that situation).

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Thank you, but it didn't help. I made a copy but I can't modify it anyway.

I don't think this bug is connected directly to the playlist layout editor because as I said before, it affects the guessing tags from filename feature as well.

Well, then you should talk to your distro, I think something is wrong with your package. You unfortunately didn't mention it...

All this works fine here, using a self compiled tarball on Kubuntu 9.04, KDE 4.3.1, Qt 4.5.2. BTW, Amarok depends on KDE 4.2 and Qt 4.4, so this should also work on an older installation.

Well I'm sorry. I'm using Gentoo, KDE 4.3.1, Qt 4.5.2.

And you are sure that all the Amarok elements are up-to-date? AFAIK Gentoo splits Amarok in different elements, and we often encounter problems when some of these elements are from an earlier git version. Else talk to the Amarok maintainer on Gentoo.

It definitely works here with Amarok 2.2

As far as I know, Amarok consists of two packages in Gentoo: amarok and amarok-utils. They both are in the same version. Beta version I tried was from kde-testing overlay, but final Amarok 2.2 is in main portage tree, so it should work.

Well I try to contact the maintainer.
