OK ..... I have had a love hate relationship with the new amarok..... But I feel like recent upgrades make it worth checking out. I'm a heavy user of AMAROK and it would be a major loss to loose it.
How can I install Amarok 2.2 safely without removing 1.4 I know there is a trick to install the nightly build ...... but what is the nightly build ... is it currently the newest version of amarok???? WIll I be able to import any of my sgl database from 1.4??? Any help is appreciated ..... I've angrily held off amarok 2 for a while for fear of screwing up my 1.4 install. Well, the Nightly builds exist for Kubuntu, you can find more information here:
http://launchpad.net/~project-neon Neon runs Amarok 2.2-git nightly-builds in a sandbox as a different user, so it will not affect your existing Amarok 1.4. And yes, you can import your SQLite datbase by default, and there is the possibility to use an existing MySQL database. But keep in mind that using the same database for both Amarok 1.4.x and Amarok 2.2 is not supported.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

There are no official packages for Amarok 2.2 on Kubuntu Jaunty as far as I know. But it will be available with Kubuntu Karmic (9.10) which will be released at the end of the month.
You can try the Nightly Builds, that's called Project Neon, those aren't official and you get the latest development version (from git) of Amarok there. But those can be broken, for example at the moment for me the song lengths aren't shown anymore, it's almost everything just 0:00. So this shouldn't be for everyday use, it's more for testing. And, as Mamarok said, it doesn't touch old Amarok 1.4 or 2.1.1 settings, so you can try it without risking any loss of old Amarok data and settings. |

Click "Fully Rescan Collection" in the collection settings to fix this. (known issue)
