Oh if that was for me, my Kubuntu Amarok is working great, I was just saying my Windows build of Amarok wasn't playing sound [same deal the bar was moving along as if it were playing but nothing was coming from my speakers] and the "Test" button in sound configuration works fine and all other sound on my system works as well.

Reinstalling OS should always be a solution of last resort. |

Mamarok, I was calm and there was no aggression or ill-will intended. I'm sorry if you interpreted my comment in that way. On the contrary, I appreciate the time that you and others in this forum have devoted to my problem so far.
If that is true, then having tried all of the other suggestions here without success, the solution amounts to moving aside ~/.kde/share/config, which isn't too different from just removing ~/.kde. I don't mind trying this and will do so next.
Already done. |

I'm out of clues. Whatever you do, I would be very interest to know what caused this.

I had the same problem and as someone above suggested:
deleting ~/.xine/catalog.cache and rebooting the system did solve the problem for me cheers Chris |

I am experiencing the same problem:
o No audio in Amarok v2 o I do have audio in Firefox, VLC, etc. o I created a new user and Amarok sound works o I moved all of ~/.kde for my own account and rebooted => Still no sound from Amarok Please keep me posted. |

Try removing the contents of ~/.local and ~/.config also.

Thanks for the input. I just tried this but to no avail -- still no sound from Amarok |

You are removing the directories outside of KDE correct?

Indeed I am doing it from the console-login and I stop KDE first. When I have a chance, I will remove the following all at once and try again: ~/.xine/catalog.cache ~/.kde ~/.local ~/.config ~/.asoundrc /etc/asound.conf /var/tmp/kde*-$USER /tmp/ksocket-$USER /tmp/kde-$USER I won't have the time to try this for a couple days though. |

If that doesn't work, make sure that other Phonon applications are not affected, such as Dragon Player.

Well, Amarok just started working for me again. The strange tale:
My keyboard and mouse stopped working in X sessions. I don't know why, but Xorg.0.log led me to put
Why this all happened and what caused what else, is a mystery. It works now, and with luck it will stay that way. Thanks again to everyone who helped to troubleshoot this. Andrew. |

Hi,
Last Sunday, I upgraded my Debian Lenny to Debian Sid and, in consequence, KDE upgraded from version 3.5 to 4.3. I have the same trouble: all sounds in system works fine, even from programs like VLC, Opera... But Amarok don't sounds. I haven't installed Gstreamer, and I use Xine. I also have phonon-xine-backend installed, and all the plugins needed installed. My Amarok sound is at 100%. I had created a new user to try if Amarok sounds there, but it didn't worked. I also removed my KDE configuration folders, ~/.kde and ~/.kde4/, my /etc/asound.conf and ~/.asoundrc files, but I still haven't sound. I tried dragonplayer, but it also doesn't have sound. What can I do? Because I think that there's no problem with my configuration files because with a new user Amarok also don't work. Can there be another trouble in my sistem configuration? Regards. P.S.: please, excuse my poor English. |

Check your channel settings in KMix, it sometimes happens that a channel is muted there. This can also be done with the command line tool alsamixer.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Indeed, I had this problem often here with my sound card. KMix shows 5 (or so) channels by default, but there are another 30 ones (very obscure ones) hidden. One wrong setting can have weird effects...
