A forum search for 'radio streaming' has revelaed 8 pages of results, but nothing specific to my problem.
I'm running amarok 2.2-git and 2.2 standard (on another machine). Both running Arch Linux with all the latest updates. I've installed the 'New Zealand Radio' streams script, which successfully loads up many NZ radio stations in the "Internet > sources". Adding stations to the playlist works fine, but when I click a station to play...nothing. No sound and it skips to the next stream, which also won't play. There is no error message. I am able to copy and paste the stream url from amarok into vlc and the stream plays fine. Is this a codec problem? I've got the full gstreamer plugins installed (good, bad, ugly etc). The streams I've just tried are both asx format. In particular, the streams are: http://www1.streaming.net.nz/meta/tvworks-radiolive.asx http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/audioasx.as ... pass=20418 Thoughts?? I hope it's not an unresolveable asx problem, since all the NZ radio stations stream in asx. Sigh.

ASX means that the stream is in a Windows Media format (ASX is a playlist format containing these). So you need to install the appropriate codecs. Also you want to use the xine Phonon backend. The GStreamer one is very buggy right now.

Thanks....I installed the phonon-xine package (pacman -S phonon-xine), switched the backend to xine, rebooted and all is working.
The codecs were all correct as evidenced by vlc and gnome-mplayer correctly handling the streams - so it seems to be some interaction between amarok and gstreamer. Great to have it solved! |
