Issues with Amarok 2.2 and IPod

Mon Nov 09, 2009 12:11 am
Hello,
I've got a question regarding IPod support in Amaroks current stable version 2.2. I successfully tested IPod support in 2.2 but I have two problems left and I don't know if they are bugs or just not yet supported features.I'm asking since both problems did not appear in Amarok 1.4 before:

  • While I do see CD cover in my local collection, they don't seem to be supported on the IPod. I don't mean they won't be set-up at all on my IPod they rather seem to be replaced with a generic CD cover (see the attached image in Bug #210131 for an example, as it seems to be the issue reported there)
  • Amarok won't collect my statistics from the IPod anymore (and therefore doesn't transfer my statistics to last.fm)

Both are not implemented IIRC. And since the current maintainer is extremely busy elsewhere, this is not going to happen very soon, I am afraid :(

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Are you really sure? my covers are displayed properly on my Ipod! Thought that xevix did this some time ago?

You are of course right, Cover transfer does work, didn't read correctly, sorry for that.

Well, my covers do become transfered, not the right one though? As I said, Amarok seems to overwrite my existing covers in the collection by a generic image as I transfer an album.

This seems strange since both, cover transfer and cover support within Amarok is given. So it shouldn't be that problem to transfer the appropriate cover instead of a generic placeholder?

Can't confirm that behaviour here with an ipod nano 4g and amarok 2.2 stable.

File a bug report or contact xevix.

Good luck with that, he is extremely busy at the moment.

Please make sure that there is not already a bug filed, we are drowned in duplicates lately, so it would be really nice if everybody would search in the existing bug list if that has not been reported already (which is very likely) before reporting any bugs.

The list of current bugs can be found at http://tinyurl.com/allamarokbugs

Patches are always welcome :) Please send those as merge requests to http://http://gitorious.org/amarok

While I did not file a bug, I did participate on a existing bug report (see bug Bug #210131). The screenshots are mine.

I decided to ask here too, since I got no further reaction on the bug report. Just to be clear once again: covers seem to be copied to the Ipod, just not the actual one. There is a difference between the generic Ipod-no-cover-available-image and those transfered by Amarok which do actually show a cover, just not the right one as it shows a generic image (probably created as placeholder by Amarok or libgpod) instead.
