[SOLVED] Amarok 2.2.0 does not recognize Creative Zen Micro

Hello.

As the title of the thread says, I've been having trouble getting Amarok 2.2.0 to see my Creative Zen Micro. I'm using it on Debian Testing. KZenExplorer sees it just fine (so apparently it works in NJB mode, instead of MTP). Firmware version of the Zen Micro is 1.11.01 (AFAIK that one didn't have MTP support, which would explain why mtp-detect does not see the device).

So, the question is, how do I get Amarok to see it? From what I've read on this forum and the Amarok website, it should work automatically, but it doesn't. And upgrading the firmware to one that supports MTP may prove difficult since Creative no longer supports this device and considers it a discontinued product. :/

I guess it is a problem with the Creative Zen itself, see also this bug report:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204251

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Thanks for your answer. I half-solved the problem by upgrading the firmware (it was still accesible from a Creative website, just not easily accesible). The device is now working in MTP mode and Amarok sees it, but when I try to copy songs from my local collection to the Zen Micro Amarok says that the songs were not copied because the device already has them (even if it doesn't, in fact the device is empty). Maybe I'm being hit by the bug you mention or some other issue...

EDIT: I also tried to mount it using mtpfs. The device mounts fine, and I can copy music to it, but I don't see it in the device (nothing is listed in "Music Library"). Looks like a problem with the Zen itself, indeed. Which is strange, seeing how it worked fine in NJB mode with KZenExplorer.

EDIT 2: Disregard my stupidity. I was transferring files in a format not supported by the device. It works perfectly. I'm now a happier Amarok user. ;)

Now, let's see if I can find a way to automatically encode files in an unsupported format to a supported format when I try to transfer them to the device (that is, select a FLAC file, right-click, select copy to Creative Zen Micro collection and have it encoded to mp3 on the fly and stored on the Zen Micro).
