amarok don't want start  Topic is solved

Thu Nov 12, 2009 11:04 pm
Hi (sorry for my bad english !)

after new installation of amarok 2.2, it don't want start :

Code: Select all
jaja@quadcore:~$ amarok
^C
jaja@quadcore:~$

with kdesudo (for test only), it start correctly.

If, I try the command of this thread, I can read that :

Code: Select all
jaja@quadcore:~$ gdb amarok --args nofork
GNU gdb (GDB) 7.0-ubuntu

This GDB was configured as "i486-linux-gnu".

nofork: Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type.
(gdb) run

No executable file specified.
Use the "file" or "exec-file" command.
(gdb) run --nofork
Starting program:  --nofork
No executable file specified.
Use the "file" or "exec-file" command.
(gdb) quit
jaja@quadcore:~$

I verify user groupes, move config files, try to start with "--debug" or "-v" extension : same problem =>

Code: Select all
jaja@quadcore:~$ amarok -v
^C
jaja@quadcore:~$

I can find nothing in my log.

I make bugreport here.

Your command is wrong, it's
Code: Select all
gdb --args amarok --nofork

and once gdb is started you just type 'run'

If it doesn't start, maybe it is already running? Try
Code: Select all
killall amarok
and start Amarok again. Don't forget to start it with
Code: Select all
amarok -d --nofork
to get a backtrace.

Also, we have a French forum at viewforum.php?f=118 if you prefer to ask in French :)

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I suggest that you reinstall Amarok, then, since you probably have missing elements.
Make sure you install all of the following:
amarok
amarok-common
amarok-utils
amarok-dbg

The command for a forced reinstallation would then be the following:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install --reinstall amarok amarok-common amarok-dbg amarok-utils

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11

Please remove the configuration files for Amarok, located in $HOME/.kde/share/config/. There is amarokrc, amarok-appletsrc and amarok-homerc in my case, usually a
Code: Select all
rm $home/.kde/share/config/amarok*
should be enough.
Please also move the database folder, this can be done with
Code: Select all
mv $HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok/ amarok_backup/

Then try starting amarok again, on the command line please use
Code: Select all
amarok -d --nofork

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11

Sorry, there is something completely borked in your system. Try removing all amarok packages, then reinstall them again.

Also, as I can see in your signature, you seem to be using Jaunty, where there is no Amarok 2.2. available, might be related to it... are you sure you are not on Karmic?
