I can't find any documentation.
Info here:
http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Download:Kubuntu

Says to use...

Code: Select all
Ubuntu (Gnome) users can install Amarok with the following command:
sudo apt-get install amarok

But this tells me that my 2.2.0 is already the latest version. Can someone point me at some documentation please?

You need to activate the kubuntu-backports PPA as described here:

http://www.kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2.2.1

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Thanks. I think it would help others if it were easier to find that info from the download page.

Good heavens yes. Who controls these documentation pages. They are a confusing mess. It really hurts the reputation of the application.

Devehf, you are welcome to give a hand instead of whining. We simply don't have enough manpower. This is work in progress by volunteers who do this in their spare time.
Get in touch with us in #amarok on irc.freenode.net.

#1 I have been in touch with members of the community on irc.

#2 I have updated documentation that was grossly out of date when and where I have been given access.

#3 the "Download" page is not a page that is editable by the community - hence my question about who controls the pages

#5 obviously my intent is to lend a hand - that is why I am asking "who controls the pages" - they are not editable.

#4 your characterization of my statements as whining is rude and unconstructive to building community

Most often I would not expect backports to happen immediately after upstream has come out with a new version.

I followed the link you posted in the message at the beginning of the thread and from there to the backports PPA archive and 2.2.1 is there now, so if you have followed the instructions on that page for adding the 2 PPA archives and Amarok is already installed then the update manager should show you there is an updated version the next time it checks for updates or if you run Synaptic and hit the reload button, Synaptic should show there is an updated version.

Of course you have to be running Karmic, the newer Amarok is not being backported to older releases.

The page does mention project NEON if you are running an older release of Ubuntu, but NEON provides nightly builds, so if you use it the risk of something being broken is significantly increased.

Later, Seeker

Not all packages could bo marked for update or installation. The following packages have unresoluble dependences.

amarok:
(Depends on) Depende: kdebase-runtime (>=4:4.3.3) (but it will be installed) pero se va a instalar 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu4
Depende: kdelibs5 (>=4:4.3.3) pero se va a instalar 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu7
Depende: libplasma3 (>=4:4.3.3-0ubuntu1~ppa1) pero se va a instalar 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu7

The Launchpad PPAs are currently updating, please refer to the http://kubuntu.org website for changes. Should be fixed in a few hours at maximum.

You will need at least KDE 4.3.3, they built the Amarok packages against it. This is in a different PPA, the Kubuntu updates one. Please see the http://kubuntu.org website for more information.

Hi,

after an upgrade to Karmic (Ubuntu, not Kubuntu) I ran into the same issues but managed to proceed by adding the two lines to /etc/apt/source.list:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu karmic main

However, when installing amarok with
sudo apt-get install amarok
I get several errors and afterwards, snaptic tells me that the package amarok is broken.

Before installing, I made sure that I have no residue of the previous release (sudo dpkg -l|grep amarok shows nothing).

Here are the errors I get:
spolysiu@anthem:~$ sudo apt-get install amarok

Amarok starts and works, but I don't feel comfortable with the red sign in my panel saying that the package management is broken...
