Hello all,
Today I did a fresh install of Karmic Koala. This comes with Amarok v2.2. Installed just fine. Here's the thing. I had been using Amarok v1.4.x under Intrepid Ibex for quite some time. I didn't really investigate how to migrate to the new version, expecting the new version would automatically pick up the songs since they were in my home directory, which was a separate partition that didn't get overwritten. Not the case. Is there an easy way to migrate all the stuff into the new version of Amarok, or am I going to have to add every podcast again, including downloading the files? Robert |

First of all, upgrade to 2.2.1: http://www.kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2.2.1
Then: Menu -> Settings -> Collection -> Import Collection.

Thanks for the response Mark. I'll have to check and see if that's the one I have installed, and simply missed the .1 part. Unfortunately, ubuntu only lists their packages tested in Synaptic.

The 2.2.1 version is available in the Kubuntu backports PPA, see also here:

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

I found an article online about updating Ubuntu to v2.2.1, which I did and was able to follow your instructions on importing.
One problem is what Amarok considers a podcast thought. When I go to the Local music link all the albums are listed fine. However, when I go tot he podcasts link to update podcasts there are no podcasts listed. I checked one of them and the tag is "Podcast" Shouldn't that show up? |

No, based on the tag it will show up as podcast in the collection. I suppose you talk about the genre tag, right?
Podcasts are links to online streams in the first place. Once it is downloaded, it's simply a file with a tag. But I will let others more proficient with the internals answer that further

You are correct. I was talking about the genre tag which then leaves me a little perplexed on why they didn't show up.
Hopefully, someone will know what's up and give me some suggestions. Thanks for helping. Robert
