Amarok and remote mysql db...

Sat Dec 05, 2009 3:09 pm
Hi all,

just to make shure not to miss the point: amarok should be able to use a remote mysql db on a server where no amarok is installed on but a usable mysql setup is at hand with an empty instance for amarok.

Well, for me this doesn't work. Got an instance 'amarok.server'* containing an amarok 1.4 database and created an empty 'amarok_2.2.server'* database with an amarok-user and all rights needed and, and and... Tried to convince amarok 2.2.0 then to import the old one into the new one.

* .server means the database-server in my network

Amarok jiggles and joggles for a while and: tadaaa! Out comes a dead parrot! Though it says to have imported 3455 titles (out of 16433, btw!) - there's nothing! It didn't even create any tables in the new db!

Since I lost my ratings two times already along with all album-covers I consider this malfunctioning db conversion as a feature!

Don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but do you know an alternative for amarok, I mean, one that doesn't turn the users hair into grey and is a bit more kind to my heart then? Oh well...

Cheers,
Steff
