Amarok2

Wed Dec 09, 2009 10:17 pm
i have a friend who has convinced me to use open source software and who has installed linux mint 8 on my laptop. i had used amarok and nomad with only sporadic success, then he updated me to mint 8 and amarok 2, and now i can't even get started. mostly what i want to do is simply transfer files to my "creative zen" mp3 player. i have poked around on amarok 2 and can not sort out how to do this. when i connect my mp3 player to my laptop while on amarok2, there is no acknowledgment that i have done so. when i hit the online help option at the top of the page, what comes up is "lost something? there's no page with this address in launchpad". what the hell? i may be a microsoft moron but i don't find any of this open source software to be user friendly. my friend insists it is worth the struggle. can anyone simply tell me what i have to do to load files onto my mp3 player in amarok2 ?????????

you can look here viewtopic.php?f=115&t=83742

do you have libmtp installed?

is you're firmware the latest?
what version of Amarok are you running? should be 2.2.1
instead of mtp can you set the zen to msc? msc makes it appear as a flash drive?

after connecting the device in a terminal type: dmesg|tail
this should tell you how/if the system sees the zen
