Hi,
today I tried to add a new compilation album to my collection with Amarok 2.2.1. I tried it the same way as I did in Amarok 1.4: Using Media Sources/Files I clicked RMB on the folder containing the album and selected "Move to Collection/Local collection". The result was that all 43 tracks were distributed across my collection, each in a separate folder (initial/artist/album/track.mp3). I expected it to show up under v/various artists/album as it did in Amarok 1.4. So how do I move a compilation? Is it possible at all with Amarok 2.2.1 or do I have to rename all files manually and then move the folder to "various artists" using my favorite file manager? Oliver |

I've always used the file system to order my music files, and that continues to work most of the time. There is an unsolved problem with compilations and how best to display them. Until the devs come up with a solution, it's best to tag and organize outside of Amarok.
Also, there are still cover-fetching problems for compilations, at least for me. One way around that is to fetch the cover jpgs or pngs, and place them in the album covers as "cover.jpg" or "cover.png". Bottom line -- use the best tool for the job. Amarok is the best for playing and helping you discover music, but not best for tagging, fetching, or organizing. |

Well, it worked perfectly for me in Amarok 1.4. Would love to see it either work the same way in Amarok 2.x or to have more than one custom naming scheme, eg. one for compilations and one for "normal" albums.
That's how I always did it. Afaik Amazon allows fetching the cover from their site but the images have to be deleted after 2 months (not sure about the time frame and if this policy still exists). Therefore I scanned the cover and saved it as cover.jpg in the album's folder. Problem is that I save the cover before I move a new album to my collection using Amarok and that the cover.jpg file doesn't get moved, too. I always have to move it to the final location manually.
