Ipod not found?

Sat Jan 09, 2010 6:31 pm
I just installed Kubuntu on my laptop which came with amarok 2.2. Amarok refuses to see my Ipod classic (5G), and I can't find anywhere to try and configure it. I gave up and tried using Banshee, but I had the same problem.. Banshee didn't see the Ipod automatically, only when I browsed into it using "open media". It didn't copy any songs to my Ipod either.. So I'm back to trying Amarok. The Ipod is mounting and I can see it everywhere else, but I guess it's not being seen as a music player?

Hi, please get through the Guide from my Signature, and look if it helps you out. If it's not, we'll look again.

I followed the guide and reinstalled amarok and libgpod both anew. Still no change. Amarok does not see the Ipod until I browse into it via "files".. looking for it through the filesystem. Afterwards it recognizes it, but only as a storage device.

Thats weird. Is it FAT formatted? Did it work in any older kubuntu versions? What does Gtkpod say about the device? Does it see it? Does it display some errors?

It is FAT formatted. This is my first use of Kubuntu. Just switched from Windows XP. Gtkpod does not see it either, not does it say anything about it.

Re: Ipod not found?  Topic is solved

Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:40 am
I got it to work. Found the solution in the Ubuntu forum.

First -
Connect the iPod to the computer. If automount is running, your iPod may appear on the desktop, mounted, auto-magically. If this is the case, go ahead and skip to Section 3.
*Kubuntu NOTE: Kubuntu users (or KDE users) will need to install the kioslave for the ipod, then reconnect your ipod. This can be done with this command:
Code: Select all
Code:
sudo apt-get install ipodslave

Now.. apt-get doesn't find that package, but a quick search of the Ubuntu online repository found it and everything looks to be working properly.

Unable to use ipod in Amarok 2.2.1

Mon Jan 11, 2010 1:27 pm
I am unable to use my ipod 30 GB in Amarok (v. 2.2.1 in KDE 4.3.3 with Kubuntu 9.10). Here is the situation:

1) I have done a restore of the ipod using itunes under Windows (to start with a clean slate).

2) Using gtkpod I can load the ipod and have successfully added one album

3) Amarok, however, doesn't see the ipod

4) If I start my computer and then attach the ipod, two items appear in Dolphin: iPod and MARTIN (the name I gave the ipod when doing a Restore, see point 1, above). If I click on MARTIN, I have four folders: Calendars, Contacts, iPod_Control, Notes. If I click on iPod it appears not to be mounted.

5) If I have my ipod already attached when I start the computer, it freezes at the Grub menu.

I would be grateful for any pointers.

With thanks!

Where is this package located? I never ever heard of

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I would just like to add that there is a related thread at

viewtopic.php?f=115&t=85017

although I have not found anything in the thread that enables me to see my ipod in Amarok.

With thanks.

Did you read this particular comment?

Yes, thanks, I did. I have checked KPackageKit and I do not find any package that includes kio in the name that appears to be relevant. Does anybody know any more about this?

Thanks!

As he said in his comment you may not find it in the repos. Read it again

Well, we should close this thread and stay where the solution is, OK? And obviously you didn't read all the comment...

I will answer my own question:
This package is for Jaunty, I haven't found any for Karmic, so be careful when using it:
