Amarok 2.2.2

Fri Jan 15, 2010 10:30 pm
Even with the new release I still cannot get CDs to play with either my CD or DVD drive. I have already posted this on the Kubuntu forum but have not found an answer maybe someone on here can help? Banshee and Exaile both work perfectly so why is Amarok still not working?

I am using Kubuntu KK and KDE 4.4 RC1.

Could you please give some more information about your sound settings? CDs play quite well here since at least 2.2 on Kubuntu 9.10

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

When I click on the audio CD icon, using the DVD drive, all I get are six directories called CDA, FLAC, Full CD, Information, MP3 and OGG Vorbis. When I use the CD drive I get the error message CD not read

What you get in your DVD drive is the expected folder view for audio cds in KDE. It lets you rip the CD to the above formats simply by copying from those folders to your hard drive (eg. if you want MP3s of all the songs copy everything from the MP3 folder)

Under Amarok what do you see under 'Local Sources' when you have the cd in your DVD drive?

It says that there are zero tracks for Audio CD. I had reverted back to Amarok 1.4.10 and that works perfectly so I just wanted to try 2,2.2 to see if it works now.

Again, it does work since several versions, and you still didn't answer my question...

I didn't answer because I don't have any sound issues, Exaile, Banshee and Amarok 1.4.10 all work perfectly with both my DVD and CD drives.

KDE 4.4 RC2 comes out tomorrow so maybe I'll have more luck with that, assuming that is the problem

I just downloaded RhythmBox and that works as well, so why is Amarok 2.2.2 so flakey? I am just baffled as to why all these other players work whilst Amarok doesn't?

Seems not to work for me too.

I'm on Ubuntu Lucid, so who knows what's borked. ;)

I get a list of tracks, which display the correct artist, track, etc..., and I can add them to a play list, they just don't play.

In the details Amarok claims they are ogg, not sure what's up with that.

Can't preview the tracks in Dolphin either, so at least in my case, I don't think this is an Amarok problem.

It does seem to me that unless you choose to import the tracks into your collection, the CDA interface should be used. I don't see any place where you get a choice. So I'm thinking that probably is not really an Amarok problem either?

If the CD is already in the tray when I open Amarok, it doesn't show up in my Library.

This isn't stuff I normally use, and I don't know the status of KDE in Ubuntu Lucid, maybe I'll do some poking around and ask in the Ubuntu forum.

So that's an easy one, for a change:

1) Lucid is pre-Beta, it could implode into dark matter at any time.
2) Likely something is wrong with the AudioCD KIO-slave.

Make sure you us a recent AudioCD KIO slave, it has been fixed in KDE SC 4.4 beta 1 already.

The change track bug is a Phonon problem:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207579

As for your other problems: could you be a bit more specific on what exact Amarok version you are using? Also I suggest you have a look at the forum, since there have been extensive discussions already about Media Players, and it doesn't really belong in this thread.

Debian unstable is using 4.3.4 and seems to work about the same, except dolphin doesn't have the option to preview.

QT in Debian unstable is older than the version is Lucid as well, but I don't think that matters for this.

For my own usage, as long as Soundjuicer can rip the CD's, I'm happy. Never used the KIO stuff much before, don't really expect to in the future.
