I seem to be missing features

Sun Jan 17, 2010 1:33 pm
So, I'm trying to get Amarok to work with my iPhone. This is really the first time I've ever used Amarok. I'm on Ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) and have installed Amarok from the launchpad repositories to ensure that I have the latest stable version.

The problem is that I think I'm missing some packages or something because I try to configure ipod devices under the settings and there is no media devices category like all the how-tos list.

What am I doing wrong? I know it's probably just something stupid I've done and I'll feel really dumb when someone points out the obvious.

I also can't seem to get the sound working. I'm trying to use gstreamer as my backend but it doesn't seem to like how I have it configured. When I start up it says that it's unable to use my device so it's going to the default device.

I strongly suggest you upgrade to Karmic, since the Amarok and KDE versions shipped with Jaunty are completely outdated.
Then you should read http://kubuntu.org/news where it explains how to get the latest stable KDE 4.3.4 (in the regular karmic-backports) and the latest Amarok 2.2.2 (in the kubuntu-backports PPA).

For all things related to iPod and iPhone, you should read this:

http://bausparfuchs.wordpress.com/2010/ ... -amarok-2/

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I was afraid that someone would say that. I'm trying to hold out until the spring when the next LTS version comes out. I'll see what I can do though.

Well, update on my problems. I upgraded via cd (clean install) to 9.10. I installed Amarok and while I have sound in Amarok now, I'm still missing some settings. Specifically the media devices entry under Configure Amarok.

I'm still not sure why I don't have this. If I can figure out how to post a screen shot, I'll show you what I mean.

What makes you think that there is such a setting? It does not exist.

Bassmannate -- this hasn't been needed since the 1.4 days. Your device will show up in the top of your collection list once it is detected. You don't need to do any configuring.

Be sure to check your version, though. 2.2.2 is available: http://amarok.kde.org/en/releases/2.2.2
