Wikipedia on Amarok fails

Tue Jan 19, 2010 10:33 am
Hi!

On my newly installed Amarok 2.2 I cannot get the Wikipedia look-up to work.

The window just reads "No information found...". I have searched the net without fining any help. One posting said something about setting some proxy-stuff in Konqueror, but nothing concrete. Any help appreciated!

I fixed the missing lyrics through a script (Ultimate Lyrics
Version 1.84), and Amarok communicates with the net (at least magnificent Magnatune works!). But found no Wikipedia script. Now I have no clue where to look to find any solution.

I am running Ubuntu 9.10, but I have also installed the intire Kubuntu 9.10 (with KDE 4.3.2).

Cheers,
Lars

Hmm, so are you actually using a proxy server?

Then do this:

Launch "systemsettings", then click "Network Settings", then "Proxy". There you can configure your proxy server.

You should get a newer version of both Amarok and KDE:
KDE SC 4.3.4 is in the regular karmic-backports. It is mainly a bugfix release, so you really should use that one.
Amarok 2.2.2 is available through the kubuntu-backports PPA as explained here: http://kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2.2.2

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

i think its o problem with system config after building, and i have big question, what ports are used by amarok?

Hi!

Thanks for your answers!

To markey: I am not using a proxy server, I just read that someone did, and I thought perhaps it was a solution, perhaps even THE solution! But I have no clue whatsoever about how to use it, or why it might (or might not) be a solution.

So my problem is that I don't know where to look to find some settings or some config-file or something to alter in order to get wikipedia on Amarok to work.

From "anath0r" it seems that I am not the only one to have a problem with this. But I hope that some people do have an Amarok 2.2 on KDE 4.3.2 (or older) where this works. What might the difference between their and my installation be?

Do I have to do like Mamarok suggest, and update to Backports of KDE and Amarok? Is that what everyone has to do to get this feature on Amarok to work (again)? I hope (and believe) not! (I fear such an update, because I am not a very skilled user, and I might be prepared to wait for Kubuntu 10.4, if it is reasonable to expect that this fix will be part of "stable" by then!)

So are there anyone out there who have a working wiki on amarok? Is it possible to get this to work, without having to do "hacks" that are impossible to do to an end user?

thanks again, more answers highly appreciated!

Irisan, I'm just a typical user, not a hacker. My set-up is the same as yours, Ubuntu with KDE on top. I've been using the backports PPA ever since I got involved with helping out with Amarok, so I always have the up-to-date (but not daily builds) of Amarok.

Yes, getting the backports is a good idea; you'll get bug-fixes and such more quickly. And when a new stable in-between version of Amarok is available, you'll get it faster.

So go for it! There are no downsides, only advantages.

And yes, wikipedia and lyrics (also the pictures, try that....) work just fine now. :-)
