1. Not a linux user
2. Used to Media player I know I'm in trouble... My dad convinced me to use Mepis after showing me I could access facebook and hotmail and all of my basic needs... but we forgot music! I am very bad with this system..So I need any help any tips you can give me. So far I've figured out how to find radio stations to stream from but I cannot get individual songs into my own files (I don't have music on my computer at all yet it's blank for the most part). So first question, is it possible to take songs of the streaming radio stations? If so how? Actually that's my only question so far. Thanks! |

I've heard that there are "stream rippers" but I've never tried it. If I was starting over with an empty Music folder, I would rip my CDs using Amarok. Doing it this way, Amarok will automatically rip, tag, and organize the music.
Also, if you configure the Internet services such as Jamendo and Magnatune, you'll be able to listen to their free music. If you are a Last.fm member, you will also be able to play their streams. |

Jamendo and Magnatune, what exactly are they?
I don't much like my cd's any more I listen to them any time I don't get a radio station in the truck so they're getting old! |

Activate the Info applet in the ContextView, then go to either Jamendo or Magnatune and read, everything is explained there Also, reading more closely what valoriez told you might help, too...
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

absolutely no help..sorry
I'm looking to be able to download popular songs that were recorded at music studios not in someones basement. Is there really nothing we can use to access music that is played on the radio? (and not just by streaming it from a radio?). Anyone who is fluent in both windows and linux please give me a hand, something like itunes, napster, or limewire would be perfect. I did read the above posts a few times....bear with me I'm new. |

Okay, first of all, you should remember, that some of the greatest musicians started with songs recorded in the basement. So don't be narrow minded and listen to something outside your little world. Anyway, you're looking for an application to download mainstream music from online stores like iTunes store? The only one you can use out of Amarok is Magnatune. Regards m0nk

Try searching for kstreamripper. I haven't actually tried it, but it should do what you are looking to do.
Mepis is (I think) based on ubuntu, so you can try installing it (comandline) like:
but you're better off asking about that on the mepis forums for more help. cheers. |

She doesn't look for a streamripper. She looks for an app to buy/download music from online stores. Regards m0nk

panzita, if you are indeed looking to buy popular main-stream music, you can't really do it from within Amarok at this time. Why? Well, the stores have to allow one to do so with an agreement between the developers and themselves. They are unlikely to agree with such advocates of free and open source. And most Amarok users aren't asking for this capability. However, this could change in the future.
For now, try Amazon, Last.fm artist pages, or the band's own sites. As long as the files you buy don't have DRM on them such as iTunes has (used to have?), the tracks will play fine in Amarok. Just put the album folder into your Music folder, and tell Amarok it's there (Configure Amarok > Collection). |
