Just to make sure .. you have directories containing mp3 files where the album tag is not the same for all files in that folder and this compilation shows up under Various Artists? If yes .. could there be some mistake in my display options of the Collection Browser? Currently I've set the first level to artists, the second to album and the third to none (just like as for my Amarok 1.4) Regards, markus |

Easytag seems to set the tag correctly, if there are various artists in the scanned directory. I've never had to take care about that.
Display option is the same as yours. Regards m0nk

Could you please give me an example what tags you've set and how you've filled them for compilations with different album tags?
I've just tried Easytag (2.1.6) to re-create my tags. Before I removed all id tag information (both, v1 and v2) using id3v2 (option -D) to make sure that nothing is left before writing the tags again. Beside Easytag not showing any tag information I also verfied a clean state with several other tagging tools (eg. mp3diags) before .. all showed no single tag (neither v1 not v2). I started A2 "from scratch" again .. after scanning my music files Collection Browser still shows splitted compilations. Regards, markus |

I've made a screenshot from easytag with a compilation open (both CDs in one folder) and showing the tag settings. So there's nothing special.

The only difference I could find is the schema of numbering the songs. I do no start with 1 on each disc but continue to count up.
I tried to use your numbering schema on my files (with Easytag, writing id2v 2.3 tags), but still the same. But overall I more and more tend to think that this is about the album tag information related to the file structure (at least for me) When I change the album information of just one file in a 'working' compiliation, it gets split the next time I rescan my collection. On the other hand I can get my 'splitted' compiliation grouped together if I either split them up in two different directories (withouth changing the tags, showing up as two different compilations like in A1.4) or by setting all the album tags to the same. I could not find any information whether there were some changes (desired or not) in the design between A1.4 and A2 or not. I found some tickets on bugs.kde.org regarding TPE2 support (album artist) for compiliations, but beside one blog entry (also rather outdated now) I also couldn't find information about TPE2 support in A2. Is it appropriate to open a feature request (maybe for TPE2 support)? If yes .. what's the right channel to address this? Or am I really the only one struggling with his compilations?
