Hi Folks.

Amarok
Version 2.2.0
Using KDE 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)

I've just had a long session renaming and reorganising files and directories, but the menu item has now disappeared! I can't remember what it was called but it let me use tags to reorganise my albums into directories one file per track.

Does anyone know why this menu item might have disappeared and how I might get it back?

Many thanks,
Peter.

Amarok really isn't meant to be a tagging program, or a file organizer. If you need a great tagger, try Picard. If you have good tags but want to reorganize your files using those tags, you might try EasyTag.

Be sure to rescan your collection once you've finished, and quit/restart Amarok after the rescan.

Are you aware that the current stable version of Amarok is 2.2.2, with 2.3 due for release in about a week?

We removed the menu option "Organize collection" since it could cause data loss for users who didn't have the right permissions or not enough space left on their harddisk. The function is still there, but hidden in the PopupDropper of the ContextView. The option will be back in Amarok 2.3.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Thanks for the tips - I've downloaded Picard and Easytag and will try them out - good to know a restart is recommended after a rescan - its been a bit eratic.

I think "Organize collection" is the item that disappeared for me. I'd like to find it again as it was doing the job. Maybe an update came through that I didn't notice because I was using it intensively when it just disappeared!

Not sure what you mean by "PopupDropper of the ContextView" but I think that is what disappeared. I was viewing albums with First Level - Album, Second Level - none, Third Level - non, then selecting the album or tracks before a right clicking to bring up a context menu which included "Organize collection". Should it still be there or do you mean something else? Now, all I'm getting is: Add to playlist, Replace playlist, Edit track details and Copy to collection.

Thanks,
Peter

The popup dropper (sometimes called PUD) is what appears in the middle pane if you begin to drag a track or album over towards the playlist pane. You'll see the choices "Add to Playlist", "Replace Playlist", and "More." One of your "More" choices is Organize Files.

Explore your music,
