Im new here, and new to linux so. Im not 100% on how to use it.
I installed yesterday, and moved my music to my linux computer. Only to find that amarok will not play the audio. The actual file is playing, but there is no output. I thought at first the settings were incorrect, but after trying audio on youtube that worked fine. Can anyone help? |

Hello -- you didn't post what version, what distro you are using, etc. However, it sounds like perhaps your distro didn't automatically install the codecs you need. You'll find package names here:

Ah sorry.
Its a fresh install of Kubuntu 9.10. Amarok is 2.2.0 Ive discovered a new problem though. I was able to get the audio working on amarok. I thought my problems were solved but, I noticed now music does not play in fullscreen games, youtube, and Kopete doesnt beep. Maybe I have switched something? THe hardware on this pc is kind of mix and match but, I never had problems with it before. Again im new to understanding linux. Thank you for your response. |

Hmmm. Perhaps you have pulseaudio installed? If so, move it up to the top of every menu everywhere you can find it -- it doesn't play nice when it's not head of the line. In Amarok, that will be Settings > Configure Amarok > Playback > Configure Phonon. I suggest doing that everywhere you can find a sound configuration menu, as well. If this doesn't help, then perhaps uninstalling PA will do the trick.
If PA isn't installed, either install it and see if that helps, or I'm out of ideas. Valorie |

hahaha, I got it now. I went into settings, and pushed PulseAudio to the bottom, and PCI audio to the top for everything..
Now I can enjoy Half Life on LINUX! Thank you very much for the assistance. |
