Amarok speeds through tracks without playing them

Hi there.

I've recently made the jump to Linux and am learning the ropes.

I've installed Amarok, imported my library (which is on an external drive) and now I'm having trouble playing anything. Here's what's happening:

I select an Artist, Album then track from the Left Pane.
That track is added to the Playlist Pane.
Amarok's then "Plays" each track in the playlist in about a second, the progress bar at the top of the screen speeding from left to right in the process.

I've installed Banshie and that's playing the same MP3s fine so I think I've got the Codec side of things covered.

Here's my set-up:
Amarok 2.3
Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
RestrictedFormats codec pack.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm hoping to make the full jump from Windows to Linux. I need a decent replacement for iTunes! :)

Many thanks,
Parri

Unfortunately, probably not. Banshee uses gstreamer as a backend, which we don't advise. You'll need the Xine-Phonon backend if it isn't installed, and the appropriate codecs. Check in Settings > Configure Amarok > Playback > Configure Phonon to see if you have the proper Xine-Phonon backend installed. By the way, if you have Ubuntu, you probably have PulseAudio installed. It doesn't seem to play nice if it's second place anywhere, so if you are going to use it, move it to the head of the list everywhere.

http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/FAQ#What_med ... support.3F should answer any other questions you might have.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the speedy response!

It seems that moving PulseAudio to the top of the list has sorted the problem
in seconds.

I would never have worked that out myself. Thanks again for your help!
