Can't find ratings settings in 2.3.0

Hi, this is probably a noob question.

I want to set song ratings as they're playing, but can't find this:

- The Amarok playlist no longer has columns (listing artist, song, etc), so I can't find where to click to show the rating stars.

- In the options screen, under general, there is no option to enable ratings (can't find it anywhere else in the options).

The only place I can find to see and set ratings, is in the track editor, under the statistics tab. But I want to show the ratings stars in the playlist (like in previous amarok versions), and be able to set them there.

Has the ability to do this been removed in 2.3?

No, it's still there. What you need to do is to use the playlist menu, and more specifically the "Playlist layout" submenu. Choose "Configure playlist layouts". In the window that pop-ups, you can just drag-and-drop whatever you want shown in the playlist and where.

I miss the ability to rate tracks in the playlist also. However, if you use the Current Track applet in the context pane, you can still assign the star ratings while the track is playing. And you can use the right-click menu from both the collection browser and the playlist to Edit Track Details, and use the Statistics tab in that screen to assign both rating and score. But lost is the ability to select an entire album or entire playlist, and give all the tracks a star rating, right there in the playlist. However, you can still do that if you select the entire album, right-click > Edit Track Details > Statistics to do the same thing.

Kryten has already explained how to get your ratings to display.

Actually, you can. As long as the stars are displayed you can click on them to rate. Once to activate the editing, and again to select which field you want to edit (since the same method can be used to change the tags). This was available in 2.2.2 at least as well.

You need to do it track-by-track though. The "Edit track details" window can be used to rate an entire album or an entire playlist if you so chooses (use the "per track" checkbox in the window you get when selecting edit track details). Admittedly, the feature to mass-rate isn't right in the playlist but not far away from it.

Thanks, this works for me :-)

By the way, I was also confused by this entry in the FAQ. Could someone please update that entry to make it reflect the current version of Amarok?

Thanks for calling our attention to this. Looks like parts are very out-of-date.

We'll get to work on it!

How cool is that! I'll go test. Thanks for spreading joy around. :-)

I'm encountering a related problem: The star ratings don't save unless I do it in "edit track details". Clicking in the playlist or the info tab don't save.

I have the same bug but it only started when I enabled the external MySQL database. When I was using the internal database, the rating saved just fine from the playlist or Current Track. I'll go look for a bug report and file one if it doesn't exist.
