Podcasts are slow to be available

Wed Mar 31, 2010 8:32 am
Hi ;)

When i open my podcasts folders it take a while (more or less 10 to 15 seconds) to have them available.
Have you heard of this before ?is this a known issue ?

Thanks ;)

here's what i have :

:~> amarok --version
Qt : 4.6.2
Plate-forme de développement de KDE : 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2) "release 231"
Amarok : 2.3.0

I see a similar thing when there are lots of podcast episodes. Limiting the number of episodes fixes this -- although even in the collection it takes a while to display the albums of an artist after clicking the '+'. Not sure why the performance is like this.

In fact i see some delays in other areas :

- starting amarok takes a long time,
- podcasts as said above (i can't see how to reduce the number of episodes in one podcast).
Is downloading for local use slowing down amarok ?

I also noticed that one part of my collection on an external HD is managed strangely (songs are played but with no duration given in the playlist).

Right-click on the podcast title and then "configure" to limit the number of episodes.

This is an interesting feature when you save the podcasts after download.
In my case i seldom download podcasts (only a few) so i doubt this is decreasing the soft performance

I use this feature to remove old podcast episodes as Amarok seems to keep them forever, even if an episode was removed from the feed (and is not downloaded and not marked as new). For me, long lists of episodes definitely slow down Amarok.

hi ;)

have you seen some improvement recently ?

I still feel like the soft is not what it was before and podcasts are still slow to be managed : slow to appear, or be read. i download on ly a few, but i guess this should not disturb a lot (isn't amarok made to be able to download podcasts ? )

Also is it possible that a downloaded podcasts stays in the playlist as 1st added ? (i always have to re add it to be able to access to the downloade podcast and jump to the place i previously left the listening ).

Thanks ;)

i'm using these :

Qt : 4.6.2
Plate-forme de développement de KDE : 4.4.3 (KDE 4.4.3)
Amarok : 2.3.0

I am not an Amarok dev, but while it is certainly possible to switch from a stream of the podcast to the downloaded version, it is likely very complicated to implement this.

Limiting the number of podcasts that are displayed the speed is OK for me. I just see the same delay that is also present in the collection when clicking on the '+' to open an album/podcast (which is too slow in my opinion, but this seems to be a general thing).
