I can't connect to my network to get online and even with the install command there is no amarok on the new 9.10 after I reformatted. Can I download it and throw it on my external?

ShamrockGold: Amarok is a KDE program, and as such, is included in Kubuntu, but not Ubuntu which uses Gnome.
This is not to say that you can't run Amarok in Ubuntu -- you can, but you'll have to download and install the program and dependencies (some KDElibs). All the best, Valorie |

I'm certainly not settled with my current OS so I think I'll just go Kubuntu. Now I know what the 'K' is for.
Thank you very very much for clearing that up. |

It's rather easy to just put KDE on top of Ubuntu, or you could just get the Kubuntu Lucid beta, which includes Amarok by default. I've been running it for a week or so without incident.

I'm really not sure why but neither of two different Karma Koala Kubuntu 9.10 boot disks I made function properly.
Would you please link me to that OS you're using with Amarok by default? My computer is in fail-safe mode and I've wiped out every program through reformatting plus thoroughly cleaned the inside not too long ago and still these simple things just do not work for me. |

Scratch that, Lucid totally sucked on my system. Could you explain how to add amarok to ubuntu?

http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Download:Kubuntu should give you all the details you need. Add the PPA and then download/install with apt-get install, aptitude or synaptic. If you have mp3s, you'll need the codecs too.

Is the previous version of Kubuntu preceding 9.10 available? 9.10 doesn't work.

In what respect does it not work? PS: You might want to try the next version ("Lucid Lynx") instead of the previous one, which is in Beta state and said to be stable.

I don't know how to get mp3 codecs, and kubuntu 9.10 shows me the option screen but just goes eventually goes black when I choose to load or install it. I've had enough of this, I love amarok but I am having so many problems I gotta try Windows and winamp, I need my music.

All you need to know about codecs here: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/FAQ#What_med ... support.3F
What you need depends on what backend you choose: gstreamer (we hope not), xine (better) or phonon-VLC, the future. Valorie |

Alright, thank you for helping me with the mp3s. I'm willing to put up with the glitchy beta just so I have something if someone can help me make my 5.1 speaker setup work again. I only get two speakers and the subwoof.

That's a bit out of scope for this forum, I think. However -- are you using Pulseaudio? If so, make sure it is at the top of every list in your configuration. If that doesn't work, try removing it.
If you aren't using it, you might try installing it -- again, moving it to the top of all sound configs. Valorie |
