Hello all,
just got an update to KDE 4.4.3 and amarok doesn't output music anymore. It plays, but mute. Tried xine-driven kaffeine and it works. Rebuild amarok and it doesn't. No errors when starting with -d. Any suggestions. Oh I'm on GIT btw. m0nk

Just tried here, using KDE SC 4.4.3 on Kubuntu 10.04, both with the phonon xine and vlc backend and sound works perfectly fine.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Dieter, I had a similar problem, and had to run alsamixer in the console to fix it. In my case, I think it was something in Kubuntu, rather than KDE, but I could be wrong about that.
In any case, there were no muted channels showing in the Kmix, but Alsamixer showed the real story. I filed a bug, but it seems to be happening rather randomly. Blogged about it here: http://linuxgrandma.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... mixer.html Valorie |

It can't be any mixer settings, because I have sound, except in Amarok.
Anyway, alsamixer doesn't show channels muted. It can't be xine, because kaffeine works. It can't be phonon, because the test sound blows my ears off. Just realized, that dragonplayer also is muted. mpg123 plays as does mplayer. VLC is muted Perhaps something with the KDE packages, but don't have time. m0nk

Just compiled vlc-1.1git and phonon-vlc plus phonon-mplayer and now amarok isn't muted anymore.
Perhaps because of kbuildsycoca. Apart from that I can't see any differences betwine xine and vlc as backend. Oh, I've also updated pulseaudio to 0.9.22. I see it as solved, although it is still muted, when using xine (mplayer crashes). m0nk

Thanks for your answer, I have the same problem. But I don't want to compile something. Anyone know how to get phonon-vlc and phonon-mplayer on openSUSE 11.2 without compile? |

Because phonon-vlc is in GIT only, you will hardly find any packages for openSUSE. Apart from that you also need vlc 1.1 from GIT, because 1.0.6 doesn't work.
Oh and amarok crashes randomly with this backend (xine still doesn't work). During track changes it has some hickups, too. m0nk

Ok, so i think i'll wait the release of VLC 1.1. Maybe someone will package phonon-vlc in VideoLan repositories. Or else, i must wait openSUSE 11.3.
Thanks for your feedback. |
