I have a Philips GoGear MP3 player, it's an MTP device. I'm using Amarok 2.3.0 on Kubuntu.
When I connected the MP3 player to my PC it appeared in Amarok's Media Sources list and I was able to copy/move/delete tracks. However it's an MP3 player so I wasn't able to copy FLAC's etc. but there's a script called 'Copy Selected Tracks' that allows you to copy tracks from the playlist to a device AND it has an option to convert FLAC's to MP3 format. It seemed ideal for my requirements. Unfortunately 'Copy Selected Tracks' needs to see the device through the file dialogue and while Amarok could access the MP3 player my PC wasn't showing it in Dolphin or from the CLI. So I tried installing mtp-tools and mtpfs, I tried creating mount points and mounting the device etc. but none of these worked. An undesired side-effect of all these changes is that Amarok no longer recognises my MP3 player - I am now worse off than I was before! I undid/un-installed all of the above, I removed and then re-installed Amarok, but still no joy. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try next to get Amarok talking to the MTP device again? Thanks Nick

Did you try purging Amarok rather than just removing? Sometimes there are configuarions left over after a removal (depends on your package manager) that would show up again after a re-install.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here.

You may also wish to restart HAL, and try closing Amarok and moving $(kde4-config --localprefix)/share/apps/amarok elsewhere.

You aren't likely to get help about a video converter tool on the Amarok forum. This doesn't appear to be even a KDE or even a linux program, but rather for Windows/Mac!
I think you are just spamming. Valorie |

Please be careful with your advice: he didn't remove Amarok, just the tools he installed for mtp, read again.

Of course he was, and answering such posts is a bad idea. I erased it. It's quite easy to recognize a spammer, check the links in the signature line, that was obvious. Flagging it as spam is enough, it is likely a bot anyway.

Thanks for everyone's feedback, I tried all of the above unfortunately Amarok steadfastly refuses to recognise the player.
I'll probably do a clean install of Kubuntu sometime in the next couple of weeks which I hope will put things back the way they were, though it's annoying not to know what the problem is.

Sorry, but based on his statement:
I suggested he consider a purge. If he didn't remove Amarok, then of course, you're right ![]()
