Running Amarok 2.3.0 on KDE 4.4.3.
On loading .wma files, Amarok crashes. It has no issues when loading mp3 or other files. Would appreciate help to rectify this. Thanks. |

Daftboy, have you the proper codecs for playing .wma files? This page may lead you to what you need:
http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/FAQ#What_med ... support.3F If you do have the correct codecs installed for your chosen backend, you might try changing from gstreamer to xine, or vice-versa. At present, the third choice, phonon-vlc, must be built from source. More on this here: http://blogs.fsfe.org/myriam/2010/04/wa ... re-you-go/ Finally, you can always run amarok from the console:
and note what error messages you see when trying to play a .wma file. With such a little bit of information, it's really impossible to be more specific. If you need more help, please provide the distro you are running, your KDE version, and which Amarok. Valorie |

Thanks reply. The KDE version and Amarok version are mentioned in the first posting. The distro is PCLinuxos 2010. It is Amarok 2.3.0 on KDE 4.4.3. Codecs are ok but on runnung Amarok in console, this is the output [KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing... sock_file=/home/xxxxx/.kde4/socket-localhost.localdomain/kdeinit4__0 [1]+ Stopped amarok -d --nofork] Thanks |

I suggest that you file a bug when Dr. Konqui pops up after the crash. If you are prompted to download and install some debug packages, please do so, because they will make your backtrace useful to the developers. Also, try the automatic search for duplicate bugs already files, and append your bt rather than filing a new bug if you find a duplicate.
You can't upgrade to the latest, which is Amarok 2.3.1 ? Also, the latest stable KDE is 4.4.4. Valorie PS: I just queued up and played the one .wma file I have on my computer, with no problem. Amarok Version 2.3-GIT, Using KDE 4.4.85 (KDE 4.4.85 (KDE 4.5 Beta2)) |

Hi daftboy, yes I've come across problem with PCLOS10/Amarok as well.
It appears to be a problem with the Phonon-xine backend rather than Amarok. I've installed the Phonon-gstreamer backend and switched to it and it seems to have solved the problem. Good luck. |
