I just installed Fedora 13.
All the problems are the same as Fedora 12, but the fixes dont work. yum install xine-lib-extras-freeworld gives No package xine-lib-extras-freeworld available. Nothing to do yum install @sound-and-video Checks a lot of packages, all are the latest, nothing to do. yum install phonon-backend-gstreamer All up to date, nothing to do Setting the backend for Xine or Gstreamer makes no difference. It will not play audio CDs either. rythmbox will. Anybody got any ideas? |

I am having a similar problem, although I haven't put much work into troubleshooting it because I don't know where to begin. It seems like you do, though. In the Linux forums there is a thread on this to check the Amarok configuration settings and make sure that what is supposed to be in the Phonon configuration is there. (Highlight the "Playback" section in the left margin of the Amarok configuration window.) Maybe that? Other than that I am just fishing around seeing what I can find. Hopefully something will turn up.

Did you see this?

I tried the first one, it went. Thanks. But, the second and third had "nothing to do".

OK, while amarok is playing, try opening pavucontrol ... does it show any activity? (it should). are the volume levels sane and unmuted (in any of amarok, kmix, or pavucontrol)?

Everything is open, and pavucontrol shows activity. Thank you for your replies. What shall I try next?

Is the output device listed in pavucontrol legit (and not something silly like 'null device')?
if so, I'm stumped. audio seems to be getting through phonon, through pulseaudio, then .... |

I found
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=225660 What do you think? My Kmix only has Internal Audio Analog Stereo Playback Device as a slider. How do I add channels? I tried to configure them, but there is nothing there to configure. I am stumped, too. theAdmiral |

internal analog is what it should say.
Last-ditch effort would be to try to run in a konsole/terminal: alsamixer -c 0 and/or look through this for helpful tips: http://fedorasolved.org/Members/fenris0 ... orkarounds |

I tried as much as I could with the link. I am running KDE. As far as the terminal program goes, everything looked a-ok.

Please check in System Settings > Multimedia that the correct device is at the top...

I'm so frakkin' confused, at this point I don't know what the correct device is. What is up there indeed is PulseAudio Sound Server.
Thanks. |

Hi!
I just installed Fedora 13 on my new laptop, I get the same problem: no sound at all! If I launch pavucontrol while playing sound in rhythmbox or a DVD with mplayer, there is activity but I can't hear nothing. What should I try to fix it? Thanks in advance, Marlène |

Marlène, sorry to hear of your difficulties. Please run in your console
Are any of the channels muted? If a channel is muted, it will show at the bottom of the column MM. Use the arrow keys to select any muted channels, and use the M key to toggle channels between muted and unmuted (00). Any success? Valorie |
