I'm running amarok on Ubuntu 10.04.
For some reason, when I quit Amarok, the process stays around as "sleeping". I always have to shutdown Amarok completely through the process manager. If I don't do this, I cannot launch Amarok because the system assumes that it is already running (which it is, but asleep and unaccesable). |

To shutdown Amarok correctly, just use Ctrl+Q when the window is active, or choose the Close option in the File menu. Closing the window only reduces it to the system tray. BTW, Ctrl+Q is valid for all KDE applications.

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

I know that. I've been using quit in the file menu.

You might run Amarok from the console:
You'll get quite a bit of output, and maybe will be able to see what's happening when you Control-Q quit. Valorie |

there seems to be nothing unusual in the console output. no errors or warnings. it stops after

I too am experiencing this issue, using Ubuntu 10.4, Amarok 2.3.0 and KDE 4.4.2
Despite using the menu option 'Amarok' and selecting quit, I am unable to completely shut down the program. I must kill it in the system monitor to end it completely. |

I've searched the bug tracker, and I don't see this bug reported. To file a good bug, you will need to run Amarok from the console:
Use http://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=amarok as a shortcut, and be sure to file out all the relevant info. Thanks! Valorie |

Are we sure this is a problem? At first I thought I was experiencing something similar, but as it turns out, when you press the "x" (close) button on Amarok, it just minimizes it. CTRL+Q works for me.

had the same problem, I am able to quit successfully now (Ubuntu 10.04)
I noticed some errors regarding the database so I set up Amarok to use MySql database. this link http://digitizor.com/2010/05/27/how-to-use-mysql-database-in-amarok/ helped (since i don't know Mysql) but it has different commands than my version of Mysql. If Mysql is not available, I heard that Amarok tries to use SQLite, but this seems to not work.

From Amarok 2 on, only MySql is used. No setup is required unless you need to use a remote database.

OK, let's resume that:
Did you really close Amarok With Ctrl+Q (or through the Menu -> File -> Quit) or did you just close the Amarok window with the mouse? In the first case Amarok should exit correctly, if not, please file a bug with valoriez's suggestions. Else you just didn't close Amarok but reduced it to the SystemTray: is there still an Amarok icon visible there? CLick on it to restore the window and then exit Amarok as I explained above. @Mircea: I don't understand why you talk about KTorrent? This thread is about Amarok.

I disagree. This thread should be about a misbehaving process that was present in 4.4.4 and it still sticks in 4.4.5 and affects many of the system's applications including Amarok... |

Then please report this where it belongs. If it is system wide (which I very much doubt), it doesn't belong in an application forum anyway.
