Hi!
Does anybody know, if there any plans to get Amarok working with iPod Nano 5G soon? If Yes, do you know when? Besides, why is iPod Nano 5G not working with Amarok? Thanks! |

do you have libgpod4 (or what ever Kububtu calls it) installed because it's this library package not Amarok that provides the access to iPod devices.
see the following for more detailed info: http://www.gtkpod.org/libgpod/ http://www.gtkpod.org/about.html

But this Wiki-Page says, that it isn't supported:

Michael, there are a couple of reasons why a particular model of device might not be supported. Firstly, the developers work to support all players which follow open standards. If they have extra time, they work on the closed-standard devices.
However, because they are closed, and there are so many of them, and they all cost money, and often developers have other uses for their money, work can be slow. If you want to speed them up, you can offer to pay to get your device covered, you can provide devices for the developers to work on (even ones with cracked screens, as long as they work!), and you can perhaps do some of the work yourself. Free and Open Source Software doesn't happen by magick -- it takes time and work. Valorie |

Hi Valorie!
Maybe my posts sound a bit to rough-spoken... Wasn't my intention, sorry! I really appreciate the work of all OSS-Programmers!!!! That's why I made a donation to Amarok-Project yesterday! Because I'm really happy about progs like Amarok! I was just wondering why the iPod Nano 5G isn't working, because: 1. I'm technically interessted 2. My Girlfriend got the mentioned iPod as a present and She has Kubuntu on her PC, so Amarok would be a nice option to fill the iPod with sound. So I also was wondering if there is support coming the next time, so that I can try then again. And I also like the approch to first make the devices working, which support open standards. But unfortunately, my girlfriend got a closed-standard device... So, if I want to support the Developers to also get the Nano 5G working, where do I get more infos about or where do I have start? Who are the developpers for the libs for iPod? Thanks a lot for your comments! Michael PS: Forget my question about the developpers for iPod-libs! Found it in a post in this thread! |

Valorie: doesn't Amarok use libgtkpod for access to iPod devices? and doesn't libgtkpod 7.9.x (seen post saying you need 7.9.2, one said 7.9.3) series support iPod 5g nano http://gtkpod.git.sourceforge.net/git/g ... cc3c583dcf
So if he has the 7.9 series installed and follows line 57 -> 59 shouldn't he have support, this post says such for gtkpod and rythmbox http://wolfs-ubuntu.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... lucid.html (basically says you need to initialize the device using iTunes then copy at least one song onto it) kdemichi1234: the article you reference is old and appears to reference the Amarok 1.4.x series, definitely need to be updated Please note I'm just repeating what I've been able to Google as I don't have the device |

OK, I'll do what is decribed on the websites you posted... So iPod Nano G5 is definitelly supportet. Thougt it is not, because I read it in forums and also on the Amarok-Wiki page I posted. But those infos seem to be wrong now. Thanks for your help! I'll post my success/failure as soon as I have tried it! PS: In the meantime I got it working with Floola: http://www.floola.com/home/. But I still prefer Amarok and I will try it also with Amarok |

kdemichi1234 - I don't actually know, Im just forwarding what I've been able to find that seemed relevant, and remember the libgtk version used is critical
If it works please post again |

I can confirm now that Amarok can handle iPod Nano 5G! Tried mp3 and movies, both worked.
I seems that I had to put a one mp3 (or what ever format is supported) with iTunes (I did it with Floola, but the effekt is the same) to the iPod, so that the database was intialised as you mentioned before. Now it works with Amarok! Thanks for your support! |

I have the very same iPod. Thank you so much for posting your positive results kdemichi1234. I'm not clear on what steps you took to get it working, but at least it gives me hope, since i'd read the same Amorok page you reference and since it doesn't say the iPod Nano 5G is supported i wasn't sure if it was worth any effort.
