Do you use Pulseaudio? If yes, please remove it, it doesn't work well in Kubuntu 9.10. "sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio-*" (without the " characters) should do the trick.

Also make sure you use the xine backend in Phonon and have the kubuntu-restricted-extras package installed. Also, it would be nice If you could state your Amarok and KDE versions.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Not realy sure if I use pulsaudio.
I have however theese libs installed
Code: Select all
ii  libpulse-mainloop-glib0                    1:0.9.19-0ubuntu4.1                        PulseAudio client libraries (glib support)
ii  libpulse0                                  1:0.9.19-0ubuntu4.1                        PulseAudio client libraries

I am currently using KDE 4.4.2 and
amarok Version 2.3.0.90
Using KDE 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2).

This is strange o) Two different version of KDE ???

No, Amarok in Kubuntu 9.10 has been compiled with KDE 4.3.2, what matters is your installed version. But why do you use a beta version of Amarok 2.3.1? 2.3.1 has been released since quite some time. Maybe upgrading to Lucid would be an idea, see also http://kubuntu.org/news for more information.

OK, you don't use pulseaudio, one source of errors is eliminated, let's check the rest:

Please make sure you have nothing muted in Amarok or KMix (activate all channels to test).

Again the questions form my first request: make sure to use the xine backend in Phonon and you need the kubuntu-restricted-extras package to be installed.

Hello.

I have the same problem in Fedora 13 with the latest versions of KDE and Amarok installed (that is 4.4.5 and 2.3.1).
I too use PulseAudio -- not sure what version but still the latest.
I tried both backends in Phonon with almost the same result.
Xine gives no sound whatsoever and gStreamer gives a very distorted audio output.
Perhaps this is worth mentioning, I removed and reinitialized the program several times and I managed to play one song before it broke down again.
Also, Dolphin and other players are opening my music files just fine.

the gst distortion at least is a bug in gstreamer-plugins-good,

I have the xine backend. All channels in kmix are open. I have installed kubuntu-restricted-extras. Still no sound.
I will try to install a newer version.

Did you check you don't have a muted Amarok?

I don't know were it went wrong previously, but it worked when i restarted amarok again to check if amarok was muted. It wasn't muted but the sound was flowing into my ears.

Thank you
