playlist save

Fri Jul 16, 2010 10:28 am
Hello

I use amarok a lot and I have problem to understand the playlist.

Ordinary I play music sorted by genre or albums. Thats no problem, but how can I make my one playlist, for example for special events (party, candle light dinner, children, wife, ...).

When I here music I rate the audio files. Ok this works good, but is it also possible to store the played audio file at a special playlist, or maybe I can tag the file (I sow this hidden option) and at the playlist mode (or the tag mode) I have the tagged files.

I don't think that the playlist mode is for now as useful at it could be. But maybe I'm to stupid to find the right options.

Can you help me?

When it will be a new idea, please move the treat. I also can design a picture how I think it would be a nice tool.

Thanks for any recommendation.

One option would be using labels, and sorting by those labels (party, candle light dinner, children, wife, ...) in the APG (Automated Playlist Generator). Add labels in the right-click menu (for the track, album, or artist) > Edit Track Details > Labels.

The other option is using the Dynamic playlist, and sorting by genre. Be sure to put the slider all the way to 100%. You can use more than one filter at a time, so you can use Rock, Progressive Rock, and Indie Rock in one Dynamic Playlist, for instance.

Hope this helps,

that would work.

But how do other people use the save playlist menu?

Typically I just drag things from my collection to the current playlist, then periodically save that leaving the date and time as the name, so if something happens that replaces/empties my current playlist I still have a fairly recent saved playlist to go back to. Either that or I use the 'Dynamic Playlist' feature to randomly play tracks from my entire collection.

If you have renamed some playlists to have more meaningful names, then you can drag stuff from the current playlist to any of the saved playlists.

I bought a little 2GB portable music player so I will probably start using playlists more, since my music collection is significantly bigger than that.

In particular the APG is looking interesting to me, in seeing how you can use the labels you have added in creating the rules for generating these playlists and choose some number of minutes the playlist should fit within.

I don't remember from previous discussion on labels, but if you can syncronize the labels with your tags at Last FM that would be ideal, because I don't really want to have to go through and do it all again. I haven't checked the scripts lately to see if there is a script for it.
