Removing the amarokrc file does solve the problem. However that causes amarok to loose its settings and it then insists on rescanning the music which corrupts the collection data, albums are listed under the wrong artist, lyrics are displayed with the wrong track, tracks are missing etc.

Reinstating backups starts the whole process again with amarok being unable to start.

Probably this is the same bug as I encountered while testing the Fedora release of 2.3.1: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=607977

Seems to be related to dynamic playlists - by editing
.kde/share/config/amarokrc to change

Dynamic Mode=true

to

Dynamic Mode=false

startup no longer hangs. After using Amarok for a bit and shutting down,
whatever condition caused the hang seems to clear and Amarok can start up
normally, even when "Dynamic Mode=true", but the problem typically reappears
soon again.

Once again my amarok also stopped working. Removing the amarokrc made it working again. The settings lost were marginal, even my own playlist layout was preserved.

I have found that by starting and quitting it manually it seems to work. Previously I had it in Autostart and would just stop playback before shutting down the pc. Has worked okay for the last few days.

Unfortunately, I had to go through the delete procedure a few more times again. I am under the impression that we have an issue storing/reading geometry data from the rc files as the obvious "cannot blabla negative values" from the Qt framework indicates that there is something terribly wrong with the layout parameters stored there or the way they are interpreted at start time from amarok.

I am using dynamic mode all the time and will try the advice from ozjd next time I see this error occuring.

Though it is not hard to solve it is a very annoying bug that truly deserves some attention in development.
