Running A 2.3.0 on Ubuntu 10.04. I can open a single flac just fine in Amarok and it plays, But if I add a folder of all my flacs, it will scan through all 25k files, but nothing is added to a library/collection?

OK, so you can open it in the files browser but cannot add the file to the collection, right?
Do you have all the tags set correctly, using UTF-8?

You can run the amarokcollectionscanner in a konsole to see what happens when you scan this folder.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, it seems I cant get A to "see" the files to add to the library and running from the console didnt seem to indicate anything?

That sounds very strange, you get no other message than that? Looks like that folder is empty. Did you try running amarokcollectionscanner witht the option -r?
Also, I did understand you right, you have a collection, it's just that flac folder not showing in the collection?

Ok, didnt realize I had to pass a recursive parameter. So it seems to find them now, searching in one folder. But nothings seems to get into a local library?

I have also confirmed permissions, and chmod 765, the files are there and I even tried with a folder of MP3's. Same thing, they play fine, they seem to scan, but the local library is not populated?

If your local collection is not populated at all, then maybe something is wrong with your MySQL installation.
There was a packaging error in Ubuntu which did not drag the necessary MySQL files for non-KDE users, what is strange is that you use Kubuntu where this should work out of the box, as that package is also needed elsewhere in KDE.

Please check you have all the following packages installed:

* libmysqlclient16
* libmysqld-pic
* mysql-client-core-5.1
* mysql-server-core-5.1
* mysql-common

Actually I am running Ubuntu 10.04, but none of the mysql client files/libs are installed. I just assumed that if A needed to use a mysql db, there would be a default/embedded db installed. I will install the Mysql client files and since I have some MySql db's on the network, I will try to point A to one of them and try the scan again.

Well I give up now. This makes no sense and there are other players around. I can connect from the workstation, to the remote database just fine. When setting a remote MySql db in Amarok, there is no confirmation that it can connect? I started the scan again and no tables are created in the DB, so this is clearly not production-ready software. Might as well stick with Listen. None of the other players has trouble scanning the flac files and adding to a local library, only Amarok.

Amarok can currently not use more than one MySQL database, so either you create one with the default locale mysqle, or you create or use one external database. You can't just point to a remove database not created with Amarok, this needs some table corrections. See also the Settings menu in Amarok about the external MySQL server.

As far as Amarok is concerned, it works perfectly fine with the MySQL database. Please blame Ubuntu for not packaging this correctly. This is BTW fixed in the 2.3.1 version: http://kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2.3.1.

Also please change your profile settings to Ubuntu as your main OS, I assumed wrongly you were using Kubuntu as it reads now. This would have spared both of us quite some hassle, as I would have been able to point you directly to the packaging error.

My mistake on the profile setting. I was in a hurry to register then post, and did not notice "Ubuntu" the first time but found, and changed it now. Sorry about the confusion and I will try again with the 2.3.1 release. Thanks again for your help.
