Currently running Amarok Version 2.3.1 - Using KDE 4.4.2 on a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx.

My daughter has a silver 4gb ipod and we have used this off and on with some success and failure with the older versions of Amarok, I use a Zen by creative and my son has parallel xyz mp4 touch screen - these work flawlessly. The ipod is the'fussy one' ~;)

These are the steps i take and what happens...

1 - connect USB cable to pc
2 - (Amarok is setup to detect by auto) Amarok starts up,adds all tracks from the ipod (not expecting this actually and would like to control this action?)
3 - select any track (mp3) that is on the HDD folder that is Not loaded on the ipod and right click for mouse mini window, select copy to ipod.

Error message is - "Cant write to media /SARAH's IP/ipod_control/Music/FO3/ then what ever the file name it creates.

I have tried to find anyone' prior mssg on this but not found here. Any got a fix for this?

From a Amarok Devotee ;)

There are several things to test:
* is the iPod "mac-formatted" (ie HFS+) or "windows-formatted" (FAT). You can check that by typing "mount" in a terminal and finding the line corresponding to the iPod
* this might be a bug in the library amarok uses to handle ipods, could you paste the content of /SARAH's IP/ipod_control/Music/ (by typing "ls '/SARAH's..../Music/'" in a terminal). I think the path you gave isn't exactly the one that was displayed in the error message (should be iPod_Control), so be careful with that :)
* one last possibility is that amarok has a bug because the iPod name contains spaces

Hi Teuf

Thanks for feedback.

In Terminal using the 'mount' command includes this line

/dev/sdd1 on /media/SARAH'S IP type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks,uid=1000,gid=1000,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,flush)

So it looks like it Vfat
Now when I change clik the Ipod and say open in terminal i have the following

chris@chris-desktop:/media/SARAH'S IP$ ls
9 - I, Love.mp3 Disc 2 - 15 - By Surprise.mp3 iPod_Control
BOOTEX.LOG Disc 2 - 4 - Stuck.mp3 Notes
Calendars Disc 2 - 5 - Phenomenon.mp3 Photos
Contacts Disc 2 - 8 - I Thank You.mp3 Recordings
Disc 2 - 10 - The Way I Feel.mp3 FOUND.000
chris@chris-desktop:/media/SARAH'S IP$

Files are all over the place, I can see that this happened when we were trying to copy paste from file manager to ipod.
It also looks like all the files are read only now, I dont know how this happened but may explain the "no write" issue?

The Files are ok to view and delete in Rhythmbox but will not transfer as well.
Error opening file '/media/SARAH'S IP/iPod_Control/Music/F44/Toto_-_Africa.mp3': Read-only file system

Amarok error
Could not write to /media/SARAH'S IP/iPod_Control/Music/Fo7/kpod0645144.mp3

Hope this helps.

Still unable to change the settings on this 4gb ipod. Have now copied all files to Hdd and can now try some terminal commands on it it without risk of loosing anything!
If all else fails then i suppose I will have to find out how to reformat these things?
Can anyone help with what their supposed to have on them and how to reset them up?
