1) Clementine, being a fork of Amarok, actually has pretty much the same scanner code, so it not working with Amarok 1.4 or 2.3 makes it not that likely it'll work in Clementine either.

2) It's Amarok, and many years ago was amaroK, but was never AmaroK.

3) It's somewhat rude to come on to a project's forums and suggest the user try something else, especially when one of the developers of the project is actively trying to provide support.

Sorry jefferai;
I only wanted to give an extra option to the user - but if I'm looking at this thread again now... it was a bit brute of me :-\

I could have known that you were following up this thread and were going to try everything to solve it......
Success ;)

I'm listening on Clementine now...it's cool, but I want amarok. I'll thoroughly read and test your suggestions once I get back from class. I appreciate the help

ok so I ran those codes which removed the amarok files in apps and config, then ran that other code in both directories. amarok is still crashing on start up.

also, yes, my music is on a secondary hard drive, but it is mounted.

It's okay :-) If a post goes unanswered for a long time it makes sense to suggest alternatives but I just took a bit of offense at it since I'm spending time trying to fix it :-)

OK. Please run amarok --debug, let it crash, then clear the scrollback in your console and run it again, and put the output on a pastebin and give the link here. Also, it should give you a backtrace when it crashes -- that would be very helpful to have.

Could you tell me again which version of Amarok you're trying now? I did some work on Dynamic Collections that's in 2.3.2 beta, and I have just got one report of it causing some problems. But that shouldn't be the case if you're running 2.3.1.

I'm using 2.3.1. I ran amarok --debug and it loaded up, didn't crash, and actually scanned the collection!!! I restarted the program normally and it worked!! I don't know what happened but I'm so glad to finally use a quality player that does what I need it to. Thanks for your time, I appreciate it greatly!!!

much love

Strange....
But much pleasure and luck with using your AmaroK ;)

Jefferai: do you maybe know which command was the source of this 'solution' (sometimes, I can't explain why it's solved - is there now a reason to say: yeah it had to be like that ???

No, unfortunately I don't. There are actually some Plasma-related bugs in KDE 4.5 that could cause crashes that are fixed in > 2.3.1, and some things in commits > 2.3.1 that could maybe cause some collection trouble (an as-yet-not-tracked-down corner case in the renewed Dynamic Collection feature), but he's not running either of these, so...your guess is as good as mine.

Regardless, I'm glad it's working. :-)
