I'm having some trouble with managing my collection under Amarok: if I collapse a genre, it'll re-open itself seemingly randomly. Can I change this?

Can you tell us more, starting with your version of Amarok, and distro, and KDE version?

Right, sorry. Gentoo 2.6.35-r4, KDE 4.4.5, Amarok 2.3.1.90

According to http://blogs.gentoo.org/jmbsvicetto/201 ... sql-status
"...since amarok-2.3.0.90, the embedded use flag was dropped from IUSE defaults, which means that unless you activate it explicitly, amarok won't use or support libmysqld (the mysql embedded server)" Are you using mysqle? If so, I don't see that use flag in your list above. |

mysqle isn't listed as a possible USE flag (as you can see in the list I gave above), and enabling it does nothing to Amarok. However, embedded is recognized as a USE flag, and enabling it does have an effect on the package and allows me to uncheck the "use external database" box inside Amarok (which I can't do without the embedded flag enabled). I'm confused. Toggling the mysqle flag on doesn't change anything:

I only raised the issue because some gentoo users report database problems. The embedded db is default, and should be used unless there is a specific reason for using an external instance.
I rarely sort by genre, but did today to test out your report. Using genre/artist sorting, I can't confirm in GIT, in Kubuntu. Valorie |

It's default? I had to manually enable the embedded db. It was annoying to find out, too. |

What does that have to do with the original question?
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Good point; I'm just a little worried my Amarok was more messed up than I thought. |
