Hi,
I cannot get Amarok to play online radio from inputting a URL or with Cool Streams. I am running Ubuntu 10.01 and the latest version of Amarok. Help will be appreciated. P.S. Amarok plays my recorded cd's beautifully. |

Are you behind a proxy?
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Soory for my ignorance, but what is a proxy? I have a wireless router and I have Gufw enabled. |

Radio works fine with both Amarok 2.3.2 and 2.4-git, could well be that particular radio station not working.Could you please give an example? I know that some Cool Stream stations have problems as well, we need to refresh that list.
A proxy is a network server, see more about that here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server It can cause problems with outside connections, depending on the proxy configuration.

I have gone back to Ubuntu 10.04 and Amarok 2.3.2 to Ubuntu 10.04 and Amarok 2.3.0. Still cannot get url's to work with Amarok. The url's work with Rhythmbox and others. Are there some additional plug-ins required? Thanks for the info on Proxy. Undertand now. I don't have a network server. |

How's this? http://87.117.228.94:9026 Amarok dispalys the station name but no sound is evident and scro/l bar is not displayed either. |

It says "Beautiful Classical Music Italia Italy - Venice Classic Radio" and it plays fine here, using Amarok 2.4-git of today with KDE 4.5.2 on Kubuntu 10.10.
It displays nothing in the progress bar (which depends on the track lenghth data send by the station IIRC) and displays "Playing:Beautiful Classical Music Italia Italy - Venice Classic Radio" in the Status Bar.

Online radio works for you but not for me. I tried to see if I could configure xine and in terminal I ran %xine-check Nothing found...Is this a problem? |

Xine is not needed, but the phonon-xine-backend which uses libxine. I use the phonon vlc-backend, not the xine-backend, could you try with that?

How do I do that? I am a novice ubuntu 10.04 user?
After I posted the above portion of this message, I went to Ubuntu Software Center and installed phonon GStreamer0.10x backend. Amarok online radio is now working. I also updated ALSA to 1.0.23. Everything is tickety-boo now. |

You need to install the 'phonon-vlc-backend' package, then change the backend in the System Settings -> Multimedia -> Backend tab (without Amarok running). Then you start Amarok, that should be enough.
