I am using Amarok 2.3.2 in Ubuntu 10.10. It found all my music files, but when I try and play a song either mp3 or mp4 it doesn't start. I have the codecs and can play the songs in other players by opening them.

I have tested my speakers and they all work playback is through pulse audio. I've tried all that I can think of. If anyone has any needs more info I am more than happy to provide (if you tell me where to find it, I'm an Amarok n00b).

Are you really sure you have the codecs for the phonon backend in use? Those are not the same for the gstreamer and xine backend. Make sure you have the kubuntu-restricted-extras package installed.
