Lifesaver, it might help if you start Amarok from the console,
Code: Select all
amarok -d --nofork
so you can get some output as Amarok is starting up. You might see where the crash is coming from, or if you don't get a crash, what is happening when your tracks don't play.

Be aware that each of the backends uses different codecs, unfortunately. This link should help you sort that out: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/FAQ#What_med ... support.3F

As already answered in the French thread:
K/Ubuntu is currently in transition from HAL to udev and CD support in Amarok does not work in that distribution. We will know more once this transition is achieved, which is planned for K/Ubuntu Natty Narwal aka 11.04

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Also on Slackware 13.1 (KDE4-4.5.3, Xine backend and HAL support), Amarok 2.4 shows the same problem: Amarok 2.4 detects the Audio CDs but it is not able to play them.

No problems with Amarok 2.3.2; so, this is clearly a bug in Amarok 2.4.

The strange thing is that Amarok 2.x is the only media player that has these problems on Linux; is it so difficult to find a solution?

In Precise Pangolin Amarok 2.5 is still not able to play CDs... that's quite incredible :'(

Was Precise Pangolin before or after Copulating Chameleon? You Sh++buntu guys are so funny. Why can't you simply write the version of your so-called distro? As you can see, the last entry in this thread was made over one year ago, so it seems, that there is either no large interest in solving this issue or it is already solved. Well, my Amarok 2.6git plays CDs, although I don't use this feature.

To chime in with Dieter: could we please stop this? We have a bazillion of open threads in this forum about CDs not playing in totally outdated Amarok versions release about 3 years ago which don't help and are apparently not read.

So for the last time:
- basic CD play should work in Amarok 2.5, but in SOME cases the user sees the tracks grayed out, that is a known bug which is solved since quite some time in the development version aka 2.6-git, it will be shipped in the upcoming Amarok 2.6

Thread closed.
