Amarok does not seem to pickup album/cover art properly

I have albumart.jpg files in the directories alongside music albums, but Amarok seems only pick up about half of them. As suggested in #amarok I changed one the file covers that was not being picked up to cover.jpg and did a full rescan to no avail. I am using Amarok 2.4-GIT (built today Nov ~13). Reason for albumart.jpg instead of cover.jpg is due to much of the music coming that way and my Android device (Motorola Droid) seems to like the file names that way.

Any thoughts? I would much prefer not to have to associate each file with its corresponding album manually.

it is my understanding of cover art is that Amarok looks for either cover.* or folder.* viewtopic.php?f=121&t=85313#p145132 and that embedded covers in mp3 files are now used https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=176402

could it be those covers named albumart that are being picked up are because they are also embedded in the mp3's?

is automatically fetch cover art enabled? you can open the cover tool and have Amarok fetch covers which saves you manually associating (of course the process is not perfect)

you might also try renaming your amarok apps folder and config files and see is a clean start helps ~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok and ~/.kde4/share/config/amarok*

these are mp3's?

Removing confuguration fixes almost all of them...the others do not have albumart...so seems to have fixed it. Some sort of cache or something?

The amarok collection scanner has experienced a complete rewrite in recent git, and ralf is still working through the bugs. in fact I believe one of the issues that came up after the rewrite is that the cover detection wasn't working correctly. you can follow some progress on amarok-devel@kde.org and ask rengels (or ralf_ ) in #amarok on freenode.

the new scanner still has considerable issues with scanning speed and compilation detection as well, so it is a work in progress.

I seem to have a similar problem, Amarok shows no Album art for any songs in my library. I do have "fetch album art" checked and all my files are mp3
