I just got a Nokia N8 and people keep telling me that its best to use Ovi Suite or Window Media Player to sync/transfer music onto the phone.
Is it possible to use Amarok to do this? ps. Right now I just transfer the files in dolphin to the phones memory manually.

If you plug in your phone while Amarok is running, does it show up in your Local Collection? If so, you can transfer tracks easily via the right-click/context menu.

At the bottom of my Local Collection it shows the drive and calls the phone Volume (vfat) and says it has zero tracks...
How would one proceed?

You need to explicitly tell Amarok where on the phone the music directory is - right click on the drive in Amarok > collection > configure collection, and set the music directory. You can then use Amarok to add tracks to it.

Sweet! I managed to get it working... However Im curious on how to get the cover art to transfer with it. All the cover art is from amarok online fetching. Is it embedded in the mp3s or a separate file?

I think you can embed the covers with Kid3; if not that, then EasyTag. Amarok will now read embedded covers, but I don't think it will embed them for you. The script CopyCover will put a copy of the cover in the Album folder as you play tracks, though.

When I look in the original folders on my laptop I only see the mp3's... how does amarok store the covers?

Amarok won't save the covers into the folders unless you install the CopyCover script (Tools > Script Manager > Get New Stuff) and play the tracks. I find Dynamic Playlists on Random play does the trick eventually.
Unless you do this, the covers are stored in the database only. |

ahh so amarok stores all the covers locally in its own folder/database.
Hmmm So im guessing another app that has the ability to embed the covers is no use untill I use that script you are mentioning anyways. Then try to embed from there?

So that CopyCover2 does make the album art inside the dir when I play it in amarok.
Quesion: Do I have to play every song to attain file association for all mp3's to that jpg? Or Can I just play 1 second of 1 song for each album and the presence of the file in the folder is enough? ps. Im trying to wrap my head how the cover image is used by programs.

So I managed to get covers working on my phone
I use Amarok to download all the covers. Then I use the copycover script to get the image into the dir's. Then I use Kid3 to attach the covers to the files. Then use dolphin to copy the music/folders over to the phone. Then the N8 can see all the covers.

Im happy too
Though I was wondering if down the road it would be possible to allow amarok embed cover art into the mp3s and streamline the process?

Does anyone know what the syncing protocol is for the N8/Symbian^3? I know on windows you can use the Ovi Suite to sync that does some 'extra' work rather than treating it as a mass storage device.
I just got an N8 yesterday so if there's some better syncing logic i'd look into it---however, I can't find much on the interwebs...
