Just reinstalled Amarok on my ubuntu 10.04 system. I grab a few tunes from an external drive and add them to the playlist. Upon hitting the play button the songs speed through at about warp 7, no sound, just song 1, ZIP, song 2 ZIP, etc. done. forty minutes of music "plays" in less than a minute.
Any ideas what could be going on? |

Are the songs in mp3 format? If so, you probably haven't got the codecs. sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg and you should be okay.

that was a fast reply, thanks! Unfortunately "libxine1-ffmpeg is already the newest version."

They are in mp3 format then, I take it? Try sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras; I might be forgetting one of the dependencies needed for mp3 playback that pulls in.

Sorry, yes they are in mp3 format (mostly). I found the KDE restricted extras and installed them already while trying to figure it out myself

OK, I had to restart Amarok. It is working now. Thank you very much |

Stupid question perhaps, but you have restarted Amarok since installing it, yes?
If so, can you start Amarok in console with amarok --nofork --debug and drop the output you get when trying to play songs into pastebin.com or similar and post the link here? Edit: Great, glad you got it working. |
