Have been trying to get Amarok scan my collection, but at max, it reaches 33% and then it freezes and so does plasma.
A killall -9 amarok from a tty brings back plasma to life.

I have a medium sized collection with about 23000 tracks.

Which exact Amarok version do you use? JFYI: the collectionscanner has seen a major overhaul in 2.4-git.

In any case it would be helpful to run

amarokcollectionscanner -r /yourcollectionfolder

and check where it hangs. Most of the time it is a bad id3 tag.
