Don't know why the Nouveau drivers would cause you to not get into init 5 with no gui, maybe bad xorg.conf (which should not be needed any more). When that happens if you type the command "startx kde" (no quotes) to get to KDE you might find the problem
this should help http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-ins ... HOWTO.html with installing Nvidia drivers but be advised there are problems with the 260 series and the 32bit kernel, so if you switch to Nvidia install the 256 series drivers http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get- ... ght=260.19 |

it's nvidia driver installer that creates a xorg.conf lefting me in init with no gui, nouveau -when removing xorg.conf- allows gui.
same problem with 256 series here

I tried startx , is this different from startx kde ?
startx gives this in kdm.log and Xorg.0.log (at the end) : http://pastebin.com/TAA6Pd35 (EE) are errors

all I can think of is that if Nvidia is installed then the drivers don't match the kernel version
can you determine which versions of Nvidia and the Kernel you have installed? you might wish to open a different thread to address your Nvidia problem, either here or on the openSuse forum - I'm pretty clueless on this as I compile mine |

Exactly : it does not match the kernel.
Now yesterday i took Kde 4.6 rc and now pc is not booting, i 'll go back to 4.5 asap

hello
After disabling kde 4.6 rc repositories and adding 4.5 ones + refresh and upgrade i still have the same error : kdeinit4 segmentation fault and ksmserver not starting.

Changing the version of KDE in use has likely not affected the broken NVidia driver which is the root cause of this issue.

kde 444 allowed boot with nouveau dirver, but upgrading to 4.6 rc broke something, thus impeding boot.
i downgraded to kde 4.4.4 again and now pc boots again (zypper dup is very convenient for this kind of stuff in suse). There still is a problem with driver for sure, nouveau is impeding nvidia's driver install even though i used boot options supposed to allow driver install (nomodeset blacklist=nouveau 3). But this is apart from Kde realm i guess

As for Amarok i remember that so far 'strace amarok' allows its use.

There definitly is something wrong for after coming back to default 11.3 install i updated to amarok 2.4 git and this changed some 40 packages of kde for 4.5 versions which impeded gui boot Too bad.
