How is this suppose to help us if we don't run Ubuntu or have a iPhone/iPod touch?

So... I am still having this problem. The page that was linked to says "This problem was fixed in KDE 4.6" and recommends updating to KDE 4.6.

It's a problem because I am already on KDE 4.6 and on KDE 4.5.5 I did not have this problem with Amarok 2.2 or Amarok 2.4. It didn't start until I updated to KDE 4.6.

So I caved in and downloaded Clementine. It still works with iPods in KDE 4.6. I'm really sour on the interface, but at least it's using Qt and not GTK.

Hi,

I have an Ipod Classic 120GB and using Kde 4.6 and Amarok 2.4 on Gentoo. same
problem.
I can read and play all mp3 files on my Ipod, I can add or delete from Ipod but it's viewed only as usb-disk. I can't add new files on its database.

Clementine works like Amarok, Gtkpod works fine, but i don't like it.

Trying to solve this problem I messed up everything so i have to put on all files once again and gtkpod adds too many messages on my log files, so i wouldn't like to use it ;-) .

So I haven't tried to use mine as an iPod for transferring music TO, however I did find that if you tell Amarok that the device is not a collection, you get absolutely no feedback that anything is happening but it DOES eventually catalog all of the files on the device.

kde 4.6.1, amarok 2.4.0 - my ipod classic is seen only as some dumb usb storage, w/ 0 entries on it.
I created a patch for that and posted at amarok for review.

Until patch is accepted and gets to you, you can try to make the partition name (ipod's name) that gets mounted, to start with "iPod". Since that will be seen though always as upper case, I had to fake it via udev rules.
(ah - I got to do that since recompiling my amarok rpm didn't work out for some unknown reasons).

So, I added /lib/udev/rules.d/91_myipod.rules (Mandriva) with the following content (single line)
ENV{ID_FS_UUID}=="3141-5926", ENV{ID_FS_LABEL} ="iPod_cristi", ENV{ID_FS_LABEL_ENC} = "iPod_cristi"

run as root: udevadm info --export-db | less
and search for your partition to get the good value for ID_FS_UUID.
as for the label, use anything that starts with "iPod".

unplug and then plug your ipod. mine shows the new name as being plugged, and amarok happily sees its content.

Hi

Ok, so it works :-D Thank you. Amarok transfers the files and updates the database, but I had to manually add the covers on the iPod :o .

You just don't know how much that helped me. I gave up the hope to get it working again in kde. Due to your workaround it perfectly works now.

A thousand thanks ;-)

Woohoo! Thanks for the fix. Works great in Arch x64. I have to figure out how to show the album covers, but that's no biggie.

Well, it's broken again. :-| Updated KDE today in Arch and now the ipod won't even mount. Any ideas?
