I have an audio CD in my drive. Device Notifier recognizes it and gives me two actions, one of which is "Play Audio CD with Amarok". Clicking this brings up Amarok. From the Help, I gather that in the left hand pane of the Amrok window, Audio CD should appear. It does not. How do I make it appear? Is there any configuration setting that will make it appear, or do I need to patch the code? Is this a known bug against Amarok 2.4.0 using KDE 4.6.0?
Remember that KDE 4.6.0 uses udisks rather than HAL. The audio CD plays fine using either Kaffeine or KsCD. |

Also in my case, Amarok 2.4.0 is not able to play Audio CDs; it seems a bug.
No problems with Amarok 2.3.2. |

Thanks. I think it is a bug too. I ran Amarok in debug mode and obtained the following. What does it mean? Should I just file a bug report?

no. it is because of the changeing from hal to udisk

I am using KDE4-4.5.3 with HAL enabled. |

Could you please elaborate? Is Amarok 2.4.0 using KDE 4.6.0 supposed to work with udisk? Or is there a known bug recorded somewhere? Where? Or should I file a new bug report myself? |

I too am having the same problem.
Someone mentioned earlier that you can enable HAL. Is this something I can/should do and how? |

If this helps someone, I've been using Amarok with Arch and had the same problem. Using phonon-vlc solved the problem.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I can't play audio CDs with Amarok either.

As I said in my earlier post, using phonon-vlc instead of phonon-gstreamer solved the issue foe me.

Does that mean I have to use vlc to listen to audio CDs? I quite like Amarok in every other respect.

Ah, thank you, just worked out what you mean! Here's a quick how to for anyone else that gets this problem (and like me is a bit of a noob ):
-Use package manager to install phonon-vlc (if you don't already have it installed) -In Amarok go to Settings>Configure Amarok -Go to Playback>Configure Phonon -Open the Backend tab, Click the VLC option and click "Prefer" to move it to the top of the list. -Apply changes and exit and it now works! |

Yes, quite correct. Sorry I wasn't clearer, I assumed too much. Thanks for the reminder, will try to do better in the future.

I've noted this thread for future use. I'll install phonon-backend-vlc later and follow the steps given by timswait and see if it works for me. I'm hoping that it will fix, once and for all, the problem of Amarok not working properly with audio CD's.
