Mp3 files in Amarok?

Wed Feb 16, 2011 10:53 am
I just installed Amarok, but I can't get it to play my Mp3-files.
When I try to play them I get a message that tells me that Phonon does not support Mp3..

What do I have to do to fix this?

You didn't tell us your distro, or what phonon backend you are using (Settings > Configure Amarok > Playback > Configure Phonon: Backend tab).

Pick your distro from here: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/FAQ#What_med ... support.3F . If you are using gstreamer, be sure to get gst codecs, same with VLC or Xine. If you think you might use all three, get all of them while you're at it.

Sorry!

Kind of new to Linux also... :P

I use Ubuntu 10.10 and Xine backend. How do I get the gstreamer or VLC backend?

Got it to work!

I used one of the sudo commands in the link you posted and restarted Amarok and now it seems to work fine. Thanks!! :)

Or not... :(

When I try to make a playlist it chrashes (has happend several times) and it has to refind my music on every restart (uses at least 5 minutes to start the program). In the left window it says that I hav 0 mediafiles on my harddrive (external)...

Please start another thread with your new problem, which sounds like a mysql packaging problem in ubuntu. The people who likely can help you with that won't see it under the present subject!

Glad you got the mp3 problem worked out.
