Dear all,
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04, Amarok Version 2.3.0 does not generate a collection any more. It worked beautifully before the update. I can select files for playback via Media Home Source > Files. However the local collection does not contain any files, even after 'fully rescan'. I am using the internal data base. I have already tried to delete all amarok files (~/.kde/share/apps/amarok and ~/.kde/share/config/amarok-appletsrc and amarokrc), reinstalled amarok, reboot. I tried to generate a log file for amarok --debug (either with | tee log or with > log), but that didn't work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, dabeck EDIT: sorry about the double post, firefox gave an error after submission...and I cannot delete my own post. EDIT: to clarify since there are already a few posts about erroneous collection scans: in my case no collection is generated, there are no files at all scanned. Thanks |

Thanks for your reply!
Sorry, took a while to update to Amarok 2.3.2. Now I get the following error message during startup of Amarok: 'The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly' When I now try to import folders into the collection (via full rescan), the status bar on the lower right goes up to 29% and then stops. In the collection there are now a few files (about 20 out of more than several hundreds). Trying this again several times does not yield more files in the collection. Any suggestions what to try next? Cheers, dabeck EDIT: I have played around a bit with the settings menu. If I go to 'Import statistics, I get the following error: Error: Data base not found /home/XXXX/.kde/share/apps/amarok/collection.db Error: Amarok 1.4 data base cannot be accessed: Driver not loaded Driver not loaded I deleted all those files before starting amarok 2.3.2.... so I get the feeling that my data base is not properly set up? |

did you try renaming/removing all the Amarok directory files and starting fresh since upgrading to 2.3.2? remember there are multiple rc files, though it's probably the folder that matters.
if you start it in Konsole with the --debug option you should still see all the output and need be it can be read, copied and pasted (preferably using pastbin if you post it here). No idea why debug output doesn't get piped but it didn't for me either. |

Okay, after deleting some amarok folders and no success, I deleted the whole .kde folder (which is I guess no big deal on Ubuntu running Gnome).
Now Amarok started without an error (like it did before). Full rescan gives a collection, finally!! It is a bit messed up (albums not complete, strange names for some titles, definitely not as nice as before my update to Ubuntu 10.04), but I can live with that for the moment! Thanks google01103!!! Now I need to clean up my collection....I guess there are some tools inside of Amarok, haven't checked them out, though. Cheers, dabeck |

For the "strange names" -- have you checked the tags? Right-click > Edit track details.
For albums missing tracks, you might do
Amarok relies on good tags. In 2.4, MusicBrainz is back, but in 2.3.x, you might run your tracks through Picard, EasyTag, PuddleTag, or Kid3, depending on which one you like the best, to make sure your tags are top-notch. |
