amarok misbehaving  Topic is solved

Wed Mar 02, 2011 6:59 pm
now that i've got all the other stuff working, amarok is misbehaving. it says that all of my tracks are 0:00 minutes long, sometimes it will let me edit track details and sometimes it won't, even though all of the tracks are set with 644 permissions, and frequently i have to kill it from the terminal, because the menus cease to function.

i'm running lucid lynx (kubuntu 10.04), KDE 4.5.3, and amarok 2.3.2, and my understanding is that these are known bugs that have been fixed in 2.4.0 but that lucid doesn't have something (KDE 4.6.0?) that 2.4.0 needs to run.

i don't know how to get 2.4.0 without upgrading to maverick meerkat (kubuntu 10.10), which is a little more adventurous than i want to be right now, considering that i went through a four-day nightmare upgrading from karmic koala (kubuntu 9.10) and i'm still a little gun-shy when it comes to upgrades, especially non-LTS upgrades.

any suggestions?

amarok 2.4 does not require kde 4.6

you could compile from the source http://blogs.fsfe.org/myriam/2009/09/co ... l-summary/ - it's doable and after the initial setup updates are easy, it is a long compile

I would suggest you contact the packagers and ask them to include 2.4 in lucid, there's been other posters with the same issue with 2.4 not available so there'd be support for this from others.

it requires something that lucid doesn't come with... either that, or the packages just aren't there for lucid... which is another entirely viable option.

compiling from source is a couple of steps beyond my current skill level... at this point, upgrading from jaunty to karmic, and upgrading from karmic to lucid has been pushing my skill level to the limits, despite the fact that, once i had it running, both jaunty and karmic were as solid as a rock.

do you have some suggestions for where, specifically, to write? i don't know the packagers personally, and i don't even know where to begin to find that information.

Sorry, I should have followed up on this. I'm talking to the packagers in #kubuntu-devel right now. And offering cookies!

I've started a thread for a newly packaged, but not tested, version of 2.4 for Lucid viewtopic.php?f=115&t=93959
